RYAN CORR is one of Australia’s most accomplished and versatile actors, whose commanding presence across film, television, and theatre has cemented him as a leading figure in contemporary performance. With a career defined by artistic range, critical acclaim, and fearless character work, Ryan continues to distinguish himself on both national and international stages.
Ryans career is marked by fearless choices, transformative performances, and an unwavering dedication to craft. Whether portraying a tortured antihero, a romantic idealist, a historical figure, or a fantasy warrior, he brings a rare authenticity and depth to every role. A leading force in the next generation of Australian actors, Ryan continues to redefine what it means to be both a screen star and a serious artist.
Ryan began acting in his youth and pursued formal training at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), graduating in 2009. Even before completing his studies, he was already a fixture on Australian television, with early roles in The Sleepover Club and Silversun, laying the groundwork for a career marked by both popular and critical success.
He first rose to national prominence with his role as Coby Jennings in the long-running family drama Packed to the Rafters. He went on to deliver standout performances in numerous acclaimed television series, including Bloom, In Limbo, The Secret she Keeps, Love Child, Cleverman, The Moodys, Redfern Now, Underbelly, Hoges, My Life is Murder, Hungry Ghosts, Wakefield and The Commons. In 2022, Ryan made a powerful impression on international audiences with his portrayal of Ser Harwin “Breakbones” Strong in the HBO epic House of the Dragon, the prequel to Game of Thrones. His performance was widely praised for its magnetism, emotional weight, and understated authority.
Equally prolific in film, Ryans career is defined by bold, character-driven roles in complex narratives. He starred in the outback thriller Wolf Creek 2 (2013), and opposite Russell Crowe in the historical drama The Water Diviner (2014). His most critically lauded performance came in Holding the Man (2015), where he portrayed writer Timothy Conigrave in an adaptation of the landmark memoir. The film, which chronicles a tender and tragic love story during the AIDS crisis in Australia, earned Ryan nominations for Best Actor at both the AACTA Awards and the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards, and is widely regarded as a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ representation in Australian cinema.
Additional film credits include Where the Wild Things Are (2009), Not Suitable for Children (2012), The Mule (2014), Down Under (2016), Outlaws (2018), Ladies in Black (2018), Mary Magdalene (2017) and High Ground (2020), in which Ryan played a pivotal role in a powerful exploration of Australia’s colonial history and its ongoing legacy for Indigenous communities.
Beyond the screen, Ryan is also a highly respected stage actor, known for his work with the Sydney Theatre Company. Ryans stage work is characterised by the same emotional commitment and fearlessness that define his screen performances, confirming his stature as a true actor’s actor.
In 2025, Ryan is set to star in the Australian feature film Kangaroo, directed by Kate Woods. Inspired by the life of wildlife conservationist Chris “Brolga” Barns, the film follows a man’s journey to rehabilitate orphaned joeys in the outback, continuing Ryans tradition of telling distinctly Australian stories with global resonance.
