This scene study intensive taught by Susan Batson and Carl Ford will assist and inspire the actor in applying their full instrument to a scene. Sanford Meisner used to say, “you can work on a scene for over a decade and just scratch the surface.” This intensive is both process and performance based. This intensive will push, inspire and motivate each student to be responsible to the actor’s task of creating a three dimensional walking talking human being as they enter into scene work.

This intensive will address specific goals that result in an eclectic and challenging journey. The actors are encouraged to push the envelope, to go further in their work and open new avenues for themselves in their process. Actors should become more comfortable with making their own choices and following them through on their own. The goals of this intensive are for the actor to acquire the tools and skills to put into practice in the real world.

I first met Susan Batson in New York just a week before I made Peacemaker. We worked together in earnest for two years on Eyes Wide Shut in London and on every film I’ve done since, wherever they’ve taken us. Susans book is called TRUTH, and that title precisely describes the core of the work Susan and I do together. I can’t create unless I have truth – I have to feel it.
